We are seeking an experienced AI engineer based in Kenya to join our fully remote team as a developer of advanced methods for analyzing biological and pathological microscopy images.
This is a fully remote, asynchronous role.
All team members work independently across time zones, and no mentorship or onboarding support is provided.
You must be able to solve problems autonomously and communicate clearly in writing.
Position Overview
• Title: AI Method Developer (Microscopy Image Analysis)
• Type: Contract-based (project or monthly retainer)
• Location: Remote, within Kenya
• Compensation: Based on Kenyan market rates, adjusted for skill and deliverables
• Working Hours: Flexible; asynchronous collaboration across global time zones
Responsibilities
• Design and implement AI methods for analyzing microscopy images (e.g., fluorescence, pathology, tissue sections)
• Develop algorithms for segmentation, classification, anomaly detection, and feature extraction
• Integrate and extend existing tools and models for biological image analysis
• Build and optimize analysis environments (virtual environments, dependency management, GPU utilization)
• Collaborate asynchronously with international researchers and engineers via documentation and version control
Required Qualifications (All must be met)
• Minimum 2 years of hands-on experience in AI-based analysis of biological or pathological images
• Proven ability to implement image analysis techniques such as segmentation and classification
• Strong programming skills in Python, especially for image processing and machine learning
• Experience managing environments and dependencies (e.g., virtual environments, containerization)
• Familiarity with version control and collaborative development workflows
• Professional proficiency in English (written and verbal)
• Access to a personal GPU (NVIDIA recommended, minimum 8GB VRAM)
• Ability to work independently without mentorship or real-time support
• Strong self-management and accountability in a distributed team
Preferred Qualifications
• Experience with biological image analysis tools (e.g., visualization, cell detection, structure prediction)
• Familiarity with multi-channel or multi-stain image processing
• Prior work in medical or pharmaceutical AI applications
• Japanese language skills (optional but welcome)
