Minimum Requirements
A first-level university degree in law with a relevant combination of academic qualifications and experienceAt least 4 years of progressively responsible professional legal experience is required in the practice of law in a government or a law firm with substantial experience in administrative, commercial and/or criminal law matters.Must be an Advocate of the High Court and an active member of the Law Society of Kenya. With proper leadership, the legal staff can proceed with clarity, efficiency and confidence and hopefully resolve the matter swiftlyIdentify Risks- To regularly analyze the actions and decisions of the institution in order to identify problem areas, suggest alternative courses of action and mitigate risk as much as possible.Participate in negotiations and settlement of claims and disputesPerform Research – To continuously research legal resources such as articles, codes, statutes, judicial decisions and more.
Doing so will allow the Legal Officer to stay up to date on all current laws and make well-educated legal recommendationsProcess Documents -Will frequently need to write and review settlement documents, contracts, agreements and more.
This task makes up of a significant portion of the day-to-day work and requires both focus and precision.Provide guidance to and may supervise, more junior staff on straight forward mattersProvide Legal Advice -Using oral or written platforms, will be expected to brief team of staff members on legal issues, potential liabilities and possible courses of actions.

This is the senior most academic/research position.
The appointee shall be expected to provide academic/research leadership to members in lower academic/research Grades Appointment is a three year renewable performance-based contract, depending on age, citizenship, and any other reason. Academic Qualification
Must have an earned PhD or equivalent degree qualification in the relevant field from accredited and recognized university. Experience and Responsibility
Must have at least eleven years of continuous/cumulative full time university teaching or research experience, three of which must have been as an Associate Professor, or Associate Research Professor.Must since last promotion to Associate Professor have supervised a minimum of five post-graduate students to completion and at least two at Doctoral level and Should have:
Attracted research or development funds – attended or contributed at learned conferences, seminars or workshops.Evidence of continued effective research, effective teaching and supervision.Evidence of academic /research leadership in the area of specialization through joint research, publications and membership of professional societies.Evidence of leadership (administrative experience, active participation in departmental/school/ university activities as well as national and international activities). Skills
Leadership and coordination at institutional, departmental, school and community level.Teaching and /or research and supervision of undergraduate and graduate students.Proposal, report and research paper writing.Design and develop academic programmes and curricula Publications
Must have published since last promotion any of the following:Five articles in refereed journals for Professor and seven articles for Research Professor OR One refereed book in candidate’s professional area published by recognized Publishers, plus two articles for Professor and one refereed book in candidates professional area plus four articles for Research Professor ORTwo distinguished exhibitions or performance of original creation, plus two /four articles in a refereed journal for Professor and Research Professor respectively OR One significant invention/innovation (recognized by National or International body) plus one /three articles for Professor and Research Professor respectively ORTwo review articles plus two /four articles in refereed journal for Professor and Research Professor respectively OROne International Academic/Research awards plus one /three articles in refereed journal for Professor and Research Professor respectively.
