Systems Administrator
Job Purpose Statement
The Systems Administrator is responsible for managing and maintaining the bank’s server infrastructure, with a strong emphasis on Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) systems.
This role ensures the provision of a highly available and secure server infrastructure to support critical systems, facilitate business continuity, and oversee 24×7 data center operations and SLAs. The incumbent will handle Red Hat server administration, including installation, configuration, patching, performance tuning, and upgrades, while also managing Windows environments, VMware, and backups.
Additionally, the Systems Administrator will work closely with the information security team to enforce compliance policies and procedures.
This position is accountable for daily operational activities related to data center infrastructure, ensuring optimal performance, security, and availability of all systems.
Key Accountabilities (Duties and Responsibilities)
Server Infrastructure (40%)
Implement infrastructure plans and designs as per the Bank’s requirements.Manage and maintain the bank’s Red Hat Enterprise Linux and Windows Server infrastructure, ensuring optimal performance, security, and availability.Deploy and manage virtual environments, including capacity and compute management, clustering, and High Availability.Evaluate and test new Data Center technologies.Streamline infrastructure documentation, including SOPs, DC inventory, server configurations, and system classification by criticality.Develop and maintain scripts for automating routine tasks, such as system monitoring, backups, and deployments, using tools like Bash, Python, or Ansible.Monitor systems, verify hardware integrity, review application logs.Optimize system performance by monitoring resource usage, identifying bottlenecks, and implementing tuning recommendations for Linux servers.Ensure system uptime according to SLAs and SOPs.Perform Red Hat server upgrade activities to ensure systems are up-to-date and compliant with the latest security standards Business Continuity Planning (20%)
Ensure successful backups and address any failures.Conduct regular data restoration and integrity verification tests.Support and execute approved Disaster Recovery plans for the bank.Collaborate with internal IT/business units for BCP maintenance and deployment.Coordinate with vendors on infrastructure maintenance, support, and upgrades Security, Risk, and Compliance (20%)
Perform OS patching and upgrades to compliant versions.Address audit findings and enforce policies to prevent recurrence.Manage user accounts, permissions, and access controls to ensure secure and efficient use of Linux systems.Run and share audit scripts as recommended by Information Security.Create and manage Group Policy Objects.Patch and upgrade ESXi Servers regularly.Periodically review user permissions and access in shared folders and Active Directory.Ensure segregation of PR, DR, and UAT environments Learning and Growth (20%)

Academic:
A bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, or related field Professional:
Professional qualifications in IT e.g. HCIA, RHCSA, RHCE, VCP, ITIL, MCSE, MCITP, MCP, other relevant professional qualifications in IT field would be added advantage.Project Management certification and experience is preferred e.g. PRINCE2, PMP Desired Work Experience:
